Vishen Lakhiani is the co-founder of the quirky, award winning-company MindValley which he started with his partner Mike Reining. It started out of Vishen’s bedroom in New York City and has now grown into a multi-million dollar company that comprises of 45 incredibly smart young people from 20 different countries.
MindValley’s mission? To bring together marketing and technology to help spread enlightened ideas.
By merging software, mixed media, video and social networks to publish authors in the personal development movement online, Vishen and his crew have managed to pioneer new ways of doing traditional things: parenting, entrepreneurship, spiritual growth, self-development and more.
More after the jump…
Now 7 years after their inception MindValley has won World’s Most Democratic Workplace Awards 2 years in a row and attracts the best young talents from around the world. Employees are put through a growth and learning process that is being duplicated by companies worldwide. MindValley itself has seen revenue double in the last year alone.
Vishen is a highly sought after speaker and consultant in the art of attracting top talent, growing employees, internet business building and creating a healthy work culture. He has shared the stage with Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Sir Richard Branson, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, President F.W DeKlerk, Tony Hsieh (Zappos) and many other top speakers, authors and luminaries.
I am very lucky to count Vishen as a friend and mentor. Everyday is a learning experience with him. I hope this interview will do the same for you!
I’ve broken the interview into two parts for easy viewing. Each interview is only 7 minutes long – not too bad considering the amount of knowledge that Vishen imparts in them.
Part 1:
In Part 1 you will learn:
- Is it better to start a business with our without work experience?
- The key insight Vishen learnt from his work experience?
- What makes MindValley different from other companies?
- What motivated Vishen to start MindValley?
Part 2
In Part 2 you will learn:
- How Vishen and Mike managed to build MindValley to what it is now
- Vishen shares two key insights on what you can do in your entrepreneurial pursuits
Alright, so if you have any questions for Vishen, please leave them in the comments below. I hope you got a lot of insights from this interview! Thank you for watching :)
xoxo

Part 2 was very inspiring! I like the part of combining play into work so work isn't just work, work is as enjoyable as play.
I have questions…!
When you were relocating from New York, was Malaysia the first place you thought of? Did you consider other countries where you could put your business on?
Does MindValley have a hierarchy (e.g. people moving up a promotion ladder)?
How do you know if an employee is doing their 'job' 10 times or 100 times better than when they first started out in the company?
Thanks for all the interesting posts. They really helped me ! You just got a new subscriber now!
