Guerrilla Entrepreneurs the Seminar
Posted in Business Things, Personal on July 2nd, 2010So I’ve been planning this for a while now. It started out as something different (but that’s the topic of another post :P ) and now it’s come to fruition. I’m happy to introduce to you Guerrilla Entrepreneurs my new website on Entrepreneurship – or rather 21st Century Entrepreneurship! I’m kick starting the whole thing with a series of free talks and a kick arse seminar!
I’m so excited I could burst!
If you’re in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta or Bangkok, try and come for the seminar – promise you won’t regret it.
Why did I do this?
I’ve always loved the idea of entrepreneurship – my mother was an entrepreneur. The thing that I didn’t like about entrepreneurship was that it seemed to take up all of your time. I remember my mother working constantly. She was never able to take a vacation because there was never anyone to take care of the small business that she ran. I remember thinking to myself that there has to be a way for a person to have a business and still be able to create a balance in work and life.
Of course my mum said that, that idea was impossible!
Somehow though, in the past few years I have been meeting amazing people who are successfully running their own business and living the life of their dreams! I realized that these people have what I call the 5 pillars of 21st Century Entrepreneurship which are:
- Doing something in line with your passion
- Making money
- Living a life of balance
- Having experiences money can’t buy
- Being part of something bigger than yourself and giving back to the world
What is it that these people are doing that is allowing them to live the life of their dreams, while others struggle to even take a holiday?
I don’t know about you, but I certainly wanted to know! I mean this is my life I’m talking about. If I could live it doing something I love, making money and having an all round kick arse life, I’m sure as hell gonna take it!
So here we are now with Guerrilla Entrepreneurs – the roadmap to 21st century entrepreneurship. My take on how we can create this lifestyle. I’ve got people who are doing this to come and train you on how you can do it too. If you can’t make it for the paid event on August 4th (it is only RM299 / US$92) I’m also having free talks (July 7th and 8th) so that you can still reap some benefits. Do try and make it for any of them, I promise that you’ll benefit from them.

A book a week
Posted in Personal, Self Mastery on June 17th, 2010So, I love reading. Love, love, love reading. Or perhaps I just like books?
Banish the thought!
So, I love books AND reading!
I have a habit of reading 3 books at a go and sometimes end up reading a book halfway because I get so excited and start reading new books before I finish the last one. After getting inspired by this post by Julien Smith, I decided to put some structure into my reading.
I am going to take up the challenge of reading a book a week for the rest of the year! Booyah!
Now, in all my years reading, my professional opinion is that there is a difference between reading and reading. By that I mean:
_ Reading books just to release some stress, get amused or relaxing or
_ Reading reading books to gain knowledge.
Nothing wrong with either of the two, so in this challenge I will try and read one fiction book for every 3 non fiction book I read.
I’m starting with Conscious Loving by Gay and Kathy Hendriks because it is part of my research for my next project.
Wish me luck, and you can bet you’ll get more book reviews (promise I’ll write better ones) and book recommendations here!

What Motivates YOU?
Posted in Personal on June 16th, 2010A few weeks ago I read a great book on motivation by Dan Pink called Drive which led me to read another great book called Mindset by Carol Dweck.
In Drive, Dan says that there are three factors that motivate us, and now it isn’t what you would normally think – money, fame, sex but:
Autonomy: People want to have control over their work.
Mastery: People want to get better at what they do.
Purpose: People want to be part of something that is bigger than they are.
He talks about the art of flow and mindset and how important they are. I really got a lot out of this book and it also made me understand myself better in what motivates me. But if you have to choose between the two books then I highly recommend getting Mindset by Carol Dweck. Wow! This book put so many things into perspective for me.
Mindset talks about the two mindsets that we can have which is the Growth Mindset or the Fixed Mindset. Not everyone has only one mindset, and often it changes between the two. But boy did this make things clear for me. I realize now where I have a growth mindset (career life anything that has nothing to do with relationships) and where I have a fixed mindset (relationships mostly) lol! Mainly my relationship with myself!
It also made me see how important the right mindset is to succeed. So mindset + motivation = success?
We’ll see ;)
Till then, I’m sure I’ll be cultivating my mindset first and foremost!

What is your Super Hero Power?
Posted in Personal, Self Mastery on May 4th, 2010Hello from Ko Lipe, Thailand! Yippe! It’s lovely here! I thought I’d make a video as I sit by the beach sipping my iced tea :) (I keed, I keed).
Anyway, a while ago I had a conversation with my friend Danni and we got to talking about what our super hero powers are. I find this idea to be so interesting. Coincidentally I also happen to be reading the book The Element by Ken Robinson who talks about finding your element.
What is being in your Element?
Being in your elements is the point where your natural talent meets your passion.
Ken Robinson is one of my favourite people evah! Check out his ted talk!
So, what is your element / super hero power?

I love being a girl – I am an emotional creature
Posted in Personal, Sisterhood on March 31st, 2010This post is for the ladies out there (and the men who love us ladies). I am, as you know (and I really hope this was obvious) a girl. And as a girl I tend to do things like a girl. I’m hopelessly indecisive, I ‘focus’ on 5 different things at once, talk a mile a minute and love the process of creation.
Creating a business was both stressful and fun for me. Fun because I got to come up with and create something new and stressful because I was surrounded by men and the way men do things – which i thought was the ‘right’ way – and as such, would cause so much stress in me because it was not the way I would do things.
So for all the ladies out there, venturing out I would just like to remind you, that we can do things ‘our’ way. It will be different but it will still get us where we want and cause us a whole lot less stress doing so!
I leave you with a super awesome video by my sistah Eve Ensler!
I absolutely LOVE this talk! Please leave your comment of your experience of being a woman and venturing out on your own! I would love to hear from you!

Why I don’t wash my face anymore
Posted in Personal, Self Mastery on March 19th, 2010Some time ago a friend told me that when she was a kid she stopped using facial cleanser to wash her face. She only used water because she was afraid that she would upset the ph balance of her skin. How many of you reading this now are going, “What??! She doesn’t use facial cleanser??!”
Well, the point of this article isn’t about facial cleansers, but about the beliefs that we inherit. Since the day we’re born we’re bombarded with information from every side. How many thoughts in your head right now are your own? How many things that you do daily, are things that you were told to do and so you do them, and how many are things you actually want to do?
Just like using facial cleansers to wash your face. Most men I know don’t use any type of facial cleanser just soap. And yet their skin has been the same and sometimes better than a woman’s skin. I’ve always wondered, as I lathered my face with expensive facial wash, what are the men doing right?!
How does this relate to you?
The reason I’m bringing this up is because I would like you to look at your life and make an assessment:
- What are the things that you’re doing because everyone else is doing it and it is ‘normal’ or ‘just how it’s done’? (reading the paper / watching the news everyday, going to college)
- What are the things you are doing because of all the ‘research’ out there? (Expensive facial wash, taking your medical shots, etc)
- What are the things you are doing because someone told you to?
- What are the things you are doing because … whatever
Now ask yourself, is this really necessary. I stopped using facial cleanser. The only time I use it is when I wear make up and I need to take it off thoroughly. Guess what? Nothing happened. My skin went on being it’s usual condition. I stopped buying into a lot of things that ‘people’ say are true. First of all, who are these ‘people’ and secondly, why do we have to listen to them?
When you are creating a life of bliss, there will be a lot of things that others will say you can or cannot do. Don’t listen to them without making your own assessment. Remember:
Eeverything in the world, started out as someone else’s opinion.
Don’t let their opinion hamper your progress!

Eliminating ‘Shoulds’ and listening to your body
Posted in Personal, Self Mastery on March 18th, 2010I used to live in the world of ’shoulds’. You know when you stress out because you shoulda done this or that. I also used to fall sick a lot until I realised that there was a correlation between me stressing out and falling sick (DOH! Took me all this time!) Anyway, what’s more important is that I noticed my body would give off signs to show that I am overusing it.
Why is this important for you to know?
Back in the day when I was living in the land of ’shoulds’, I wouldn’t pay any attention to these subtle signs and just plow on. What would happen was that the quality of my work would drop, I’d get cranky, needy, stuck, uncreative and eventually fall sick (usually with a cold or a cough).
Last year I watched a talk on Ted Talks by Stefan Sagmeister (designer extraordinaire) on the power of taking time off. You can check out the video here:
This concept of taking time off made such an impact on me that I reassessed my life to see where I was blocking myself from reaching my full potential by refusing to take time off.

Inspiring speech by Steve Jobs you’ve got to watch!
Posted in Personal on March 8th, 2010I’m pretty sure most of you have seen this video of Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Address, but i find it so inspiring that I thought I’d post it up here and summarize it for you (cuz I’m cool like that)!
Check out the video:
Srly, you should check out the video – yes, it’s a little long but worth it. However, here is a short summary of the video!
Steve Job’s has three main points in this video. Let’s begin with point one:

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Posted in Personal, Self Mastery on March 3rd, 2010This post is inspired by this article by jenniferalaine.
When I was a kid I wanted to be on Television. And I was on television – for 12 years (yes, I started really young). I was in front of the camera, behind the camera, holding the camera – whatever! So I pretty much got what I wanted. But at the same time, I wanted to try so many other things. Here’s a list of a few things I want to do / have done:
- Be a doctor (nope, haven’t done it. Though I am always diagnosing other people, does that count?)
- Event Organizer (Done it. For 2 years! Yeehaa!)
- Sing on stage (Done it, even recorded a song for some inane album somethingoranother)
- Strip for a day (uh… haven’t done it. Taking pole dancing classes though – I foresee this in the near future *evil laugh*)
- Bartender on a beach bar (Something about wearing very little clothing and mixing alcohol makes this appealing to me – but alas, hasn’t happened yet)
- Race car driver (I am probably the worst race-car-driver type person evah! Check out the video of me go-karting below (check out my friends commentary! LOL!). You could walk faster than I was driving! But still I have hope~)
Ok, so the point is that, if you’re having trouble figuring out what your passion / purpose might be, why not go back to when you were a kid and see what you wanted to be back then (Ok, so as a child I didn’t want to be a stripper – that was more of an adult development)? The list above are just some of the things I want to do. Some other things are down right outrageous! For instance, I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut. Given the opportunity I will jump at it! You betcha bottom dollar I will be trying to mosey up to Richard Branson to get on his space craft (ok, that sounded dirty – but you know what I mean).
So think back, see what you can come up. Write down the craziest or not so crazy things you wanted to do back then, or even recently. Who cares if you want to be a singer and frogs croak better than you do? Write it down anyway. The way I figure, if it makes your heart soar, then it’s worth a try!
